Established in 1927 as the first airport in the Arabian Gulf, Bahrain International Airport (BIA) has been a significant aviation hub in the region. Boasting a strategic location in the heart of the Gulf and over 60 years of industry-related experience, BIA has served as an ideal gateway linking East and West. Currently, BIA caters to multiple airlines and has been a key distribution hub to global cargo companies such as DHL, for over 30 years. BIA is managed and operated by Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Mumtalakat.

As part of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ objective to transform the existing terminal into a world-class facility in line with the Kingdom’s long-term economic vision and its reputation as a leading financial, cultural and aviation center in the Middle East, the Ministry in coordination with BAC have embarked on an Airport Modernization Program (AMP) to elevate BIA’s infrastructure, handling capacity and service offerings in an effort to improve passenger travel experience and Increase the airport capacity to 14 million passengers a year.
